(Dis)possessive Borders, (Dis)possessed Bodies: Race and Property at the Postcolonial European Borders

Abstract There has been a profusion of institutionalized practices confiscation and destruction migrants’ belongings during European bordering operations conducted by the police border authorities. Clothes, shoes, money, food, mobile phones, even water have among items seized authorities, practice that exposes migrants to multiple risks. That said, despite pervasiveness current (dis)possessive methods, scholars not yet sufficiently theorized historical links between property, race, borders. This article argues such at Europe's borders are simply another method governance emerges borderzones. Rather, (dis)possession is seen here as central very (post)colonial functioning itself.
